Tune-up
Most old windows, even with the ropes attached, do not operate smoothly or are not functional. A tune-up includes removing material that causes poor window movement (paint, grease, dirt, etc…) and restoring window operation. A tune-up may require releasing the upper sash window to move it back into place.
– Range $75- $125 per window
Re-Construct
This is an additional step needed for some window repairs. Occasionally windows have missing pieces, need re-gluing, corners reinforced, or require removal and repair in the workshop.
– Range $150-$295 per window
(in addition to re-rope cost)
Broken Glass
Many homes have broken panes inside their windows. Some are small corner cracks that can often be ignored, while others are large and potentially dangerous cracks. Replacement costs include window, broken glass, glazing removal, installation of new glass with glazing points, and new glaze. Range varies based on pane size, upper or lower sash, and accessibility. (Ask about leaded “band-aids” to keep most of the old glass.)
– Range $50-$105 labor per window - plus material.
Re-Rope
Often windows have become separated from ropes and/or weights. The re-rope includes all the work of a tune-up plus; removing window stop, accessing weight chamber, removing the old rope, and attaching new sash rope (high strength cotton and nylon). Pricing depends on access to the window, window size, degree of paint or dirt build-up, glide condition, and other visual operational obstructions.
– Range $205-$305 per window
Glazing
Many windows require old glazing to be removed, and new glazing applied.
– Range $25 - $75 per window
